Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is a virus that causes genital warts and sometimes cancer. There are more than 100 different types of HPV. While some types cause genital warts, others can eventually lead to cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina and anus. Contracted through sexual contact, the risk of catching HPV can be reduced by using condoms.
While there is no cure for HPV, treatment for the symptoms caused by HPV, such as genital warts, pre-cancerous cervical changes and/or cervical cancer, is available. Our physicians offer cryotherapy which can be utilized to destroy abnormal cervical cells.
